Shan Dao Acupuncture vancouver wa

Traditional Chinese Medicine is the oldest, continually practiced form of medicine in the world. Acupuncture has been employed as a health modality for over 3,000 years and currently one quarter of the world population uses it. Practitioners of this ancient healing art have experienced clinical success with a variety of health conditions. Today acupuncture is receiving wide acceptance as a respected, valid and effective form of health care. The W.H.O. (World Health Organization) has recognized the effectiveness of acupuncture in over 40 different illnesses and health problems.

Acupuncture care helps to relieve the symptoms and signs of many health problems. It can also uncover the underlying root causes of these diseases. Acupuncture and modern medicine, when used together, have the potential to support, strengthen and nurture the body towards health and well-being.

Shan Dao practices the use of both Community or Group Acupuncture as well as individual Acupuncture. The group environment helps to keep the costs down as well as allows participants the benefit of the groups’ energy.

How does Acupuncture work?

Pain and disease are caused by either an imbalance or a blockage of Qi - your vital energy - (pronounced chi) circulating (or not) through the body. In an acupuncture treatment, extremely thin disposable needles, made of surgical steel, are inserted at specific points on the body. These points are carefully selected by the acupuncturist according to the patient's diagnosis. Each treatment is tailored to the individual's needs. The acupuncture treatment corrects the imbalances and removes the blockages of Qi, thus the body can heal itself.

Common Acupuncture Questions

Will I feel the needles?

While this procedure is usually comfortable, the patient generally experiences a "needling response" which may feel like tingling or a distending sensation that runs through the body like water or electricity. Sometimes there is a mild discomfort that lasts momentarily upon insertion of the acupuncture needle.

How long does a treatment last?

Sessions typically last from 20 minutes to an hour. The first treatment is a little longer due to the interview process

Does acupuncture provide long lasting results?

Acupuncture addresses the underlying cause of disease, not merely the symptoms. When balancing the body, the results are long lasting or permanent.

How many treatments are necessary?

Generally once a week for 8-10 weeks is the usual course of treatment for most conditions. In the case of a traumatic injury, 2-3 times a week may be necessary for the first few weeks. After one 10 week course of treatment, the patient should feel definite improvement and should decide with the practitioner how much more therapy is needed for the condition. A balancing treatment can be done every few weeks or one a month as part of a wellness program to prevent illness and disease.

Does Acupuncture spread disease?

There has never a reported case of HIV or any other disease actually contracted from the use of acupuncture needles. Shan Dao Acupuncture clinic only uses disposable needles.

"The human body experiences a powerful gravitational pull in the direction of hope. That is why the patient's hopes are the physician's secret weapon. They are the hidden ingredients in any prescription."
